Detailed coloured pencil drawings.

Working primarily with coloured pencils, I build images through careful layering and precision. My body of work feels tangible and alive, encouraging reflection of natural details that are often overlooked. I am drawn to the intricacies of organic forms - highlighting their textures, hues and quiet resilience; offering a moment of stillness in fleeting observations.

Artist Practice

IMG_3104.jpeg

My practice as a colour pencil artist is rooted in realism with a focus on detailed natural form. I build depth in my works by utilizing vibrant hues and precisely layered mark-making. Working with pencil provides me total control of my art-making practice as I gently blend layer upon layer until both texture and replication is refined. I work predominantly on Stonehenge paper, its smooth vellum-like surface an ideal finish for blending many layers to build a hyper-realistic image. Draughtsmanship is a main focus in my art making practice as my initial sketch is the framework in which i build realism - focusing closely on replicating my reference precisely.

About me

I have always lived in the beautiful Hawkesbury, growing up in the foothills of the Blue Mountains and currently residing in historic Richmond near the Hawkesbury River. Artistic inspiration has always been abundant within my natural surroundings, and I have long been drawn to the intricacies of nature.

Realism is a fundamental aspect of my practice, driven by a process of drafting precise linework that is intentionally layered to replicate the subtleties of my subject matter. My artistic journey began with soft pastels; however, a desire for greater control over my medium ultimately led me to detailed, process-oriented coloured pencil illustration. Coloured pencil allows for exceptional precision, particularly when paired with smoother, lightly toothed papers, enabling me to build depth, texture, and vibrancy through careful layering.
